Built for US container drayage
ContainerIntermodal.com is an independent directory of drayage carriers: the trucking companies that move shipping containers between seaports, rail ramps, and warehouses. We cover 88 port and rail metros in 38 states, from the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to inland rail hubs like Chicago, Memphis, and Dallas–Fort Worth.
Search by state and city, compare what each carrier handles (port or rail, reefer, hazmat, overweight), and send a quote request straight to the companies you choose.
We're a directory, not a carrier or broker. You work with the drayage company directly.
Searching and requesting quotes is free. We add no commissions or booking fees; carriers pay only to be listed.

Only licensed carriers make the list
Search results for “drayage near me” are full of brokers, dead listings, and lead-generation sites. Here, every company is checked against FMCSA public records before its listing goes live, and a company without an active license can't be listed at all.
- Active USDOT number
- Active FMCSA operating authority (MC number)
- Liability insurance on file with FMCSA
We re-check listed carriers regularly and suspend any listing whose registration, authority, or insurance lapses.
US drayage, explained
The terms you'll see in drayage quotes and invoices, and what they mean for your shipment.
- Drayage
- The short-distance trucking of a shipping container, usually between a seaport or rail ramp and a nearby warehouse, distribution center, or another terminal. It is the first or last leg of most intermodal moves.
- Chassis
- The wheeled frame a container sits on while it is trucked. In the US, chassis usually come from pool providers such as DCLI, TRAC Intermodal, and Flexi-Van, and the carrier passes the daily rental on as a chassis fee.
- Free time
- The days a container may stay at the terminal, or out with you, before charges start. It is set by the ocean carrier or terminal and varies by port and contract.
- Demurrage
- A daily charge for leaving a loaded container at the terminal beyond its free time. Fast pickups or a pre-pull help avoid it.
- Detention (per diem)
- A daily charge from the ocean carrier for keeping its container outside the terminal beyond free time, typically until the empty is returned.
- Pre-pull
- Picking a container up from the terminal before its delivery appointment and holding it at the carrier’s yard, usually to beat a last free day or a terminal cutoff. Yard storage is billed separately.
- TWIC
- The Transportation Worker Identification Credential, issued by the TSA. Truck drivers need one for unescorted access to secure areas of US port terminals.
- UIIA
- The Uniform Intermodal Interchange and Facilities Access Agreement, administered by the Intermodal Association of North America. Most carriers must be UIIA participants to interchange containers and chassis with ocean carriers and railroads.
